Military Students Train for “Cambrian Patrol 2018”

CHISINAU, July 2, 2018 — A team of students from the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” (MAAF) are training for participation in the military patrolling competition “Cambrian Patrol 2018” that will take place in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in October, 2018.

According to Commander-rector of the MAAF, Col. Sergiu Plop, the trainings have started in May and are attended by 21 students from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years.

The source specified that the students were trained and tested by a group of service members from the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment.

Col. Plop mentioned that the trainings were conducted at National Army training centers and included missions of orientation, patrol, search, crossing a water course, as well as first aid and evacuation of the wounded.

Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Chisinau, Lucy Joyce, paid a visit to the Bulboaca Training ground on June 28, 2018, where she observed the military students training for “Cambrian Patrol 2018”.

At the end of the training sessions, only 10 out of the 21 students were selected for the competition.

The National Army is participating in “Cambrian Patrol” for the second time.

“Cambrian Patrol” was organized for the first time in 1960 in the region of Cambrian Mountains, on the west coast of Wales. The competition is considered one of the most challenging and prestigious military events and aims to test the discipline and the physical strength.
