National Army Service Members’ Social Protection to the Attention of the Minister of Defense

CHISINAU, July 10, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza discussed today with the chiefs of the territorial military centers and units’ commanders about the efforts made in the area of social protection for service members and the ways of improving the working and living conditions for the entire staff of the National Army.

At the beginning of the session, Eugen Sturza mentioned that one of the priorities of his mandate has been to ensure an appropriate social protection for the corps of privates, sergeants, officers and civilian staff of the army, including the creation of good living conditions.

In this regard, Minister Sturza presented the achievements of the defense institution’s leadership in this area, with a focus on the building of military housing and offering monthly allowances for housing rental, as well as the reparations conducted in the military units — renovation of barracks, gyms, canteens, and other facilities.

Eugen Sturza also referred to the objectives for 2019 in the context of improving social protection, especially regarding the amenities for food and use of free public transportation for contract-based service members.

“All these actions have only one objective — to transform the National Army into an institution of professionals who are conducting their mission with responsibility and who trust that the state will provide for them. I have set this objective for myself and I promise I will make every effort for achieving it”, said Eugen Sturza.

The Defense Minister also encouraged the service members to apply for the Program “Prima casa 2” (First house 2). This Program is designed for State employees who wish to buy a home and thus will benefit from an allowance offered by the State that covers half of the cost of the house.
