Two National Army Service Members Leave for Mali

CHISINAU, October 9, 2018 — The Republic of Moldova deployed two National Army service members to the European Union Training Mission in Mali.

The two officers — LTC Eugen Cioran and Maj. Vadim Ciuhrii — from “Moldova” Brigade have been selected, trained, and equipped in compliance with EU requirements.

The service members will stay in Mali six months and will be responsible for training the representatives of defense and security structures in the field of artillery and medicine.

The decision of deploying National Army military to the EU Training Mission in Mali was taken by the Government of the Republic of Moldova in September, 2018.

Our country’s participation in this mission contributes to the efforts aimed to ensure peace and stability at European and international level and does not violate the neutrality status stipulated in the Constitution.

The European Union Training Mission in Mali was established on January 17, 2013 based on a Decision of the European Council.
