General State Secretary’s Bilateral Meetings in Lithuania



CHISINAU, October 9, 2018 — General State Secretary Radu Burduja met with a series of officials from Lithuania and the European Union in Vilnius.

During the meeting with Director of Crisis Management and Planning Directorate of the European External Action Service, Gabor Iklody, the General State Secretary appreciated EU’s support within the process of building national defense capacities and thanked for the training offered to National Army military and civilian employees of the Ministry of Defense.

The officials talked about our country’s participation in EU peacekeeping and crisis management operations and the development of capacities of response to hybrid warfare threats. In this regard, Radu Burduja referred to the recent deployment of two Moldovan officers to the European Union Training Mission in Mali, as well as the participation in the European Union Training Mission in Central African Republic.

Also in Vilnius, the General State Secretary talked about the bilateral military cooperation with Deputy Minister of National Defense of Lithuania, Vytautas Umbrasas.

Radu Burduja underlined the excellent cooperation between the defense institutions of the two countries in areas such as: military education, expertise in reforming the defense system, and joint participation in multinational exercises.

The talks were also focused on starting and implementing projects aimed to modernize and reform our country’s defense sector, especially the development and approval of strategic documents and professionalization of the National Army.

General State Secretary Radu Burduja is attending the High-level seminar “Eastern Partnership and the European Security: Enhanced Cooperation to overcome Common Challenges” of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) of the European Union (EU) in Vilnius, Lithuania, within October 8-10, 2018.
