Republic of Moldova and China to Boost Defense Cooperation



CHISINAU, October 25, 2018 — Republic of Moldova and People’s Republic of China will boost defense cooperation by identifying new projects that would benefit both armies. The decision was made during the meeting of Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza and Ambassador of China in our country, Zhang Yinghong.

The two officials reviewed the bilateral military cooperation with a focus on priority areas, such as: assistance programs and military training.

In this regard, Eugen Sturza appreciated the logistic assistance offered to the National Army — logistic transportation and medical vehicles, computing and communication devices, video conference equipment, water purification stations, and medical equipment for a total amount of 18 millions Yuan (30 million lei). Minister Sturza also thanked the Chinese Government for the 25 scholarships to military educational institutions offered to Moldovan service members.

Eugen Sturza informed the Chinese Ambassador about the reform started in the defense sector and mentioned that “Professional Army” Program, the approval of strategic documents, and the increment of participation in peacekeeping operations are the main objectives for the development and modernization of the Moldovan army.

Zhang Yinghong said that his country supports the efforts of the defense institution’s leadership and is open for strengthening cooperation in this area.

At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed that the armies of the Republic of Moldova and China should cooperate in order to identify new assistance projects and opportunities for reinforcing the partnership.
