100-Kilogram Aviation Bomb Destroyed by Military Engineers

CHISINAU, November 6, 2018 — The National Army engineers have defused and disposed of over 20 explosive objects of various calibers during October.

According to chief of Engineer Service, LTC Adrian Efros, the largest quantity of ammunition, among which bomb-launcher bombs of caliber 82 mm and hand grenades, have been discovered in villages from Causeni, Anenii Noi and Calarasi districts.

The source specified that the most dangerous discovery — an aviation bomb of 100 kilograms — has been found by a group of workers while operating on a gas main in Magdacesti village, Criuleni district. After examining the explosive object, the engineer team of “Codru” Engineer Battalion commanded by Capt. Gheorghe Rotari determined that the bomb was of German production and dated back to World War II. The ammunition has been transported to the Military Training Base from Bulboaca in order to be destroyed.

Also in October, the military engineers destroyed a reactive projectile of caliber 320 mm discovered in a gravel pit near Puhaceni village, Anenii Noi district and three TM-57 anti-tank mines discovered in the forest near Ghetlova village from Orhei. The ammunition was evacuated and destroyed under maximum security conditions.

Since the beginning of this year, the military engineers conducted 166 demining missions neutralizing 302 explosive objects throughout the country.
