The Achievements of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova within DCBI Analyzed at International Meeting in Jordan



CHISINAU, November 9, 2018 — A delegation of the Ministry of Defense paid a visit to Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan during November 5-8, 2018 in order to attend the Meeting of the National Points of Contact (POC) for Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).

According to chief of Defense Policy and Planning Directorate, Col. Gheorghe Oarza, the event’s objective was to analyze and exchange experience in the area of planning and implementing the DCBI packages and to examine the proposals on how to make the methods of offering assistance more efficient and the aspects of bilateral cooperation between benefiting nations.

The source specified that, during the meeting, the Republic of Moldova, together with Georgia, Jordan, Iraq, and Tunisia, has presented the achievements and the latest developments in the process of implementing the DCB assistance package and of the defense capacity building of the Republic of Moldova, among which the approval of strategic documents — National Defense Strategy and Military Strategy, the enhancement of infrastructure, social care and training conditions for National Army service members, as well as the launch of the assistance package “Building Capabilities in Military Medicine” that has started the second phase of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).

The Republic of Moldova was accepted by NATO as part of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) in September, 2014 during the NATO Summit in Wales.

The DCBI’s objective is the defense capacity building of the Republic of Moldova and includes an assistance package divided into two phases.

During the first phase, the Ministry of Defense worked together with NATO experts who provided support and counseling for the development of policy documents. The second phase includes providing assistance, also through the establishment of trust funds for the Republic of Moldova which will significantly contribute to the development of the national defense system.
