Ammunition Batch Neutralized in Hincesti District

CHISINAU, November 20, 2018 — The engineers of “Codru” Engineer Battalion neutralized an arsenal of ammunition discovered near Mingir village, Hincesti district.

According to Chief of Engineer Service, LTC Adrian Efros, the unit’s demining team was called in by the local administration on November, 19 to a field near the village, where a local person discovered a series of unidentified explosive objects.

The engineer team commanded by SFC Eugen Axenti searched the terrain and discovered 66 bomb-launcher bombs of 120 mm caliber.

At the end of the works, the soldiers determined that the explosive objects were of Soviet production and dated back to World War II.

“The ammunition has remained buried for over 70 years and was dangerous. The objects have been taken to a safe location and destroyed under maximum security conditions”, mentioned SFC Axenti.

In the 11 months of 2018, the National Army engineers have disposed of 382 explosive objects throughout the country.

NOTE: The Ministry of Defense asks the citizens to inform the local authorities of the areas in which exists or it is supposed the existence of unexploded ammunition. In case of discovering unidentified explosive objects, it is absolutely forbidden to touch the ammunition with the hands or with other objects, to kick or move the ammunition found in the soil or on surface, to dismantle the warheads or other components.
