Sergeants Corps Training Discussed at Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, January 31, 2019 — A group of experts from the Military Partnerships Directorate of NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) is paying a working visit to the Ministry of Defense during January 28-30, 2019, in order to assess the bilateral partnership and the prospects for its development.

While in Chisinau, the SHAPE representatives met with Brig. Gen. Igor Cutie, National Army Commander, and talked about the defense institution’s reformation, with a focus on the professional development of the National Army’s privates and sergeants staff.

Gen. Cutie informed the experts from SHAPE about the current stage of the concept’s implementation, including the initiative of creating a school for training junior leaders, thus providing the National Army with a sergeants corps trained in compliance with international standards.

In this regard, the National Army Commander thanked the representatives of NATO for the expertise and assistance in drafting the curriculum and asked for support in applying the best practices in this field.

The members of the SHAPE delegation also held a lecture for the military units’ commanders about the role of the sergeant in the context of the National Army professionalization and paid a visit to the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”.
