Homage to the Heroes of Independence



CHISINAU, March 2, 2019 — The National Army staff from all the military garrisons is attending the Remembrance Day events organized throughout the country within March 1-4, 2019.

In Chisinau, General State Secretary Radu Burduja and the National Army Commanding Officer Corps, together with officials and veterans of the 1992 war, laid flowers at “Stefan cel Mare” monument. The participants have also organized the Memory March, walking from Marii Adunari Nationale Square to Maica Indurerata (Grieving Mother) Monument at Eternitate Memorial, where they attended a commemoration meeting.

At the same time, the officials of the Ministry of Defense and the service members from Balti, Cahul, Ungheni, Causeni garrisons and from localities Cocieri, Leova, Cantemir, Glodeni, Hancesti, Sangerei, Straseni, and Floresti have commemorated the heroes of the Dniester War within events organized together with the local public authorities.

In the context of the 27th anniversary since beginning of the actions for the defense of the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza met with the mothers and widows of the soldiers who died in the 1992 war and offered them financial aid and flowers. Eugen Sturza assured the mothers and widows of the heroes who died on duty that the Ministry of Defense and the entire National Army staff will support them and will not forge the heroic actions of the soldiers who died on battlefield.

According to official data, over 30 thousand people participated in the 1991-1992 Dniester War. Out of them 300 military and civilians were killed, while other 3,500 were wounded.
