The Achievements of NATO Building Integrity Programme Assessed in Washington



CHISINAU, March 6, 2019 — General State Secretary, Radu Bruduja, is attending the building integrity conference “Building Capable and Resilient Institutions to Strengthen our Partnerships” held in Washington, USA, during March 5-7, 2019.

The event is part of the series of actions undertaken by NATO in order to understand the corruption risks, their impact on defense institutions, and to identify the practical actions aimed to build integrity, increase transparency, and enhance responsibility in the defense sector. The Conference marks and launches the NATO Building Integrity (BI) Programme for 2019-2022.

The Conference is presided over by NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Ambassador, Alejandro Alvargonzález, and brings together around 150 military and civilian representatives of 32 allied and partner nations, including members of international organizations, civil society, and private sector.

The activity has the objective to understand the impact of integrity and good governance on peace and security, to promote the practices aimed to build capable and resilient institutions in the defense sector, and to identify the practical tools for strengthening integrity, transparency, and responsibility in the defense and security sector.

The event’s agenda includes plenary sessions and workshops during which there will be evaluated the results of the report of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on the implementation of BI, the impact of corruption as a risk for security, and there will be analyzed the preliminary achievements of good governance through corruption fight assessed by Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC).

During the Conference, the General State Secretary will present the experience of the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova in the process of implementing the Building Integrity Programme.

While in Washington, Radu Burduja will also meet with a series of officials of the US Department of State and US Department of Defense and will talk about the bilateral defense cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the USA.
