Achievements of the Republic of Moldova in Resolution 1325, discussed in Geneva



CHISINAU, October 31, 2019 - The State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Iliev, participated, together with colleagues from other government institutions of the Republic of Moldova, in the Regional Meeting of the member countries of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on the implementation of the Declaration and the Beijing Platform.

The event, which took place on October 29-30 in Geneva, Switzerland, aimed to review the common achievements and challenges in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform (1995), adopted in the framework of the IV World Women`s Conference. Participants also exchanged positive practices in promoting gender equality and women`s empowerment in all 12 priority areas of the Beijing Declaration, including the "Women and Armed Conflict" section.

At the meeting, which included a series of thematic sessions, State Secretary Iliev highlighted the important role of women in participating in decision-making in the security and defense system, promoting a culture of peace, preventing conflicts and ensuring respect for human rights. Vladimir Iliev also spoke about the main achievements of the Ministry of Defense in ensuring gender equality in the defense sector and in promoting the "Women, Peace and Security" Agenda.

The participation of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the Geneva Meeting took place in the context of the implementation of the National Program for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in 2018-2021, approved by Government Decision no. 259/2018.

The event brought together participants from 56 member states of the UNECE region - European countries, as well as states from North America (Canada and the USA), Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and West Asia (Israel).
