The Peacekeeping Battalion Marks its 12th Anniversary



CHISINAU, May 14, 2011 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta attended Saturday, May 14, the 12th anniversary ceremony of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion. The official part of the show was held at the training facility. The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Defense and Main Staff, former commanders and servicemen of the Peacekeeping Battalion.

The performances of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion recorded over the past few years prove each serviceman’s high responsibility, spirit of initiative and professionalism, Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuta stated. Marinuta pointed out that the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion servicemen are ready to take part in UN-led peacekeeping missions, as well as in theaters of operations under the direction of the European Union. „You are skillful professional officers strongly committed to your peacekeeping duties”, the Minister of Defense stated.

The Battalion trains military staff for peacekeeping missions, as well as for humanitarian and relief missions within the country and abroad, the commander of the battalion, Maj. Roman Ceban, said. He claimed the battalion currently has servicemen deployed to UN-led missions and to the Security Zone of the country.

During the anniversary ceremony, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta awarded diplomas and leaves to the best servicemen and conscripts of the unit.

The guests who attended the event had the opportunity to watch servicemen demonstrating their fighting skills. They were also familiarized with the technical equipment and the weaponry of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion.
