Vitalie Marinuta Meets With NATO Secretary General

CHISINAU, July 13 — Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuta, taking part in the North Atlantic Council (NAC) 28+Republic of Moldova format meeting, met with NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, to discuss about our cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization within different programs implemented for NATO partners.

During the talks, the two officials exchanged opinions on Republic of Moldova and NATO cooperation in the framework of a few programs, including the Partnership for Peace program and other defense and social projects. As for the progress recorded in the Republic of Moldova-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan implementation process, Vitalie Marinuta stated “We are committed to go on the reform process of the security and defense areas, as well as other social projects of major importance”.

NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said Republic of Moldova had progressed in a very short period of time and this process should go on, for the leadership of the country has all the external support and assistance it needs. Moldova assumed the responsibility to become a democratic country promoting peace and security worldwide, including by sending National Army helicopters to the UN-led mission in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Thus, “we decided to keep supporting the pesticide destruction project in the Republic of Moldova with the NATO member states’ support”, Anders Fogh Rasmussen pointed out.

Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta also had a meeting with Gabor Iklody, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, talked about some new cybernetic defense cooperation approaches, promising to provide all the necessary financial aid for this purpose.

The achievements of our country in term of Republic of Moldova — NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) implementation process, as well as cooperation with the Alliance in other areas, were the major issues discussed during the NAC 28+Republic of Moldova format meeting, held July 13 at NATO Headquarters.
