Soldier Vitalie Turcanu Awarded Citizen of Honor of Bozieni Village



Soldier Vitalie Ţurcanu, dead on duty in 1998, was awarded post-mortem the title of “Citizen of Honor of the Village” today, during a special ceremony held in Bozieni village, Hincesti.

The event brought together officials from the Ministry of Defense, representatives of the local and district administration, the soldier’s parents, his relatives and pupils.

The ceremony included a march played by the military orchestra, strings of weapons at the soldier’s grave and the inauguration of the commemorative plaque at Bozieni School, where the participants kept a moment of silence to remember sentinel Vitalie Turcanu dead in 1998, while preventing a theft of military patrimony.

“The National Army will never forget about its heroes. Today, we remember the deeds and courage of sentinel Turcanu who died defending the military patrimony. The Ministry of Defense will keep supporting the soldier’s family”, Col. Vadim Cemirtan, Chief of Air Force Command.

The Mayor of Bozieni village, Zinaida Dubceac, appreciated the Ministry’s of Defense initiative. “Soldier Vitalie Turcanu is the first citizen of honor of our village. We are very happy to fulfill the initiative of the Ministry of Defense and we intend to keep awarding this title to other important and famous people born and working in our village”, Mayor Dubceac said.

The title of “Citizen of Honor of the Village” was also awarded August 28 to soldiers dead on duty from Ustia (r. Glodeni) and Iabloana (r. Glodeni).
