Minister of Defense Meets with the Romanian Military Delegation



CHISINAU, November 1, 2011 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta met with the Romanian military delegation headed by the Chief of Land Forces Staff of the Romanian Army, Brigadier Gen. Ariton Ionita. The meeting was held Tuesday, November 1, at the Ministry’s of Defense Headquarters.

The dialogue focused on bilateral cooperation issue, joint military training and defense reforms. The Moldovan Defense Minister stated there are currently new opportunities to enhance bilateral relations and promote mutually-profitable cooperation relations between the Moldovan and the Romanian militaries. Vitalie Marinuta appreciated the Romanian Army’s support in term of National Army staff training in Romanian military high schools and universities (graduate and post-graduate studies).

During his visit to Republic of Moldova, Brigadier Gen. Ariton Ionita and the members of the Romanian delegation will also meet with the acting chief of National Army Main Staff, Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian and the Chief of Land Force Command, Brigadier Gen, Igor Cutie.

The meetings with the National Army leadership will focus on encouraging bilateral activities and establishing military cooperation relationships between the Land Force Commands of the two armies. The military leaders will identify some practical areas of bilateral cooperation such as: joint exercises, training of the corps of sergeants and non-commissioned officers. They will also discuss some perspective of technical military cooperation and identify some possibilities of development of cooperation in maintaining technical equipment.

The Romanian military delegation headed by Brigadier Gen. Ariton Ionita, will be staying in the Republic of Moldova November 1 and 2. According to the schedule, the Romanian officials will visit Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy and Stefan cel Mare Light Brigade from Chisinau.

Brigadier Gen. Ariton Ionita is 51. He was born in Bolintin Vale, Giurgiu District. Ariton Ionita has been assigned Chief of Land Forces Main Staff in January 2011.
