Discussing Corruption Through Cooperation



CHISINAU, November 22, 2011 — The Association of Graduates of George C. Marshall Center from the Republic of Moldova organized the round table “Security through Cooperation”. The event was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Defense HQ.

The meeting brought together Moldovan graduates of this outstanding institution, as well as their mates from abroad. The participants in the event discussed about corruption phenomenon and how to fight it.

Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta appreciated the role of these talks in the development of solutions to fight corruption phenomenon, for this enhances considerably the costs and risks of a good governing system.

Experts including attorneys, NGO and central and local public administration representatives, discussed about the premises, conditions and the emergence of corruption. The participants also familiarized with the experience of other states and world organizations in fighting corruption. At the end, some conclusions were drawn on how to fix the problem of corruption.


Andrei Covrig, President of the Association of Graduates of George C. Marshall from the Republic of Moldova, revealed the strong connection between corruption and security. He said corruption is a risk that puts in danger the good functioning of the state.

The same day, the Association of Graduates of George C. Marshall from the Republic of Moldova concluded cooperation agreements with similar organizations from Bulgaria and Montenegro highlighting joint activities in covering different aspects of regional and international security.

The Association of Graduates of George C. Marshall from the Republic of Moldova has got over 200 members and organizes round tables on security issues yearly.
