Presidential Orchestra Marks 26th Anniversary



CHISINAU, November 8, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza awarded today National Army medals to a group of instrumentalists and vocalists of the Presidential Orchestra during a ceremony marking the unit’s 26th anniversary.

Eugen Sturza congratulated the musicians and mentioned that the Orchestra has always been and remains a subdivision for which the talent and artistry represent incontestable values. “The Presidential Orchestra consists of professionals who represent us at international festivals and competitions winning the public’s applause and appreciation. The military music performed by Orchestra’s artists touches the hearts of its listeners raising pride and admiration for their country,” said the Minister of Defense.

On November 7, on the occasion of the anniversary, the Chisinau Organ Hall hosted a concert of classical and military music, national and international popular songs. The concert included performances of “Doina Armatei” folk band and singers Cristina Scarlat, Nicolae Palit, Roman Nirca, Elena Manciu, Marina Filipovici, Iulian Coroki.

The Presidential Orchestra of the Republic of Moldova was established on November 7, 1992. The subdivision comprises the “Doina Armatei” folk music orchestra and the Aerophone Orchestra, with a staff of 85 service members and civilians.

The subdivision participates in military parades, protocol ceremonies and unveiling of monuments, military-patriotic events, military exercises, and oath ceremonies.

During the 26 years of activity, the musicians of the Presidential Orchestra have been representing the National Army at international festivals in Belgium, France, Germany, Romania, and the Russian Federation.
