National Army EOD Engineers Liquidate Over 2260 Explosive Devices
CHISINAU, January 9, 2012 — National Army EOD engineers liquidated 2267 explosives on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, a summing up report on the National Army OED Engineers’ 2011 activity shows.
The Chief of EOD Department, LTC Mihail Semionov, stated the National Army engineers had carried out 253 mine disposal operations. Most often, the EOD engineers’ help was requested in Stefan Voda, Causeni, Anenii Noi, Ungheni, Orhei, Falesti, Calarasi, Comrat, Ialoveni, Straseni, Criuleni districts and Chisinau City.
According to the quoted source, Codru EOD Battalion carried out most mine disposal missions in 2011. The unit from Negresti village, Straseni, carried out 205 mine disposal missions and destroyed 1499 explosive devices. The EOD engineers of Moldova Light Brigade from Balti, Stefan cel Mare Unit from Chisinau and Dacia Unit from Cahul, were engaged in 48 mine disposal missions in different parts of the country.
The National Army EOD engineers say they usually found 152 mm, 122 mm, 105 mm and 76 mm artillery projectiles on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, the National Army engineers liquidated aircraft bombs weighting 250 kg, 100 kg and 50 kg, as well as different caliber grenade launchers.
97 percent of the total number of explosives liquidated by the National Army EOD engineers in 2011 dated back to World War II and three percent were left there since the Dniester War.
The National Army has got six mine disposal groups working in the North, Center and South of the Republic of Moldova. The missions carried out by the National Army EOD engineers focus on the research, discovery, identification, disposal, transportation and liquidation of the explosive devices discovered on the territory of the country.
