In Memoriam After 20 Years



CHISINAU, March 22, 2012 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Eugen Carpov, attended Thursday, March 22, the launching event of the book “In Memoriam” presented at the Center of Military Culture and History (CMCH).

According to the head of the Center of Military Culture and History, LTC Vitalie Ciobanu, this book is a follow-up of researches made by the CMCH experts. The work is dedicated to the memory of heroes dead in the 1992 war.

“The book consists of nearly 315 portrait-pictures of the heroes and their family names, the police stations where from they were taken to war and the day of death. Each page contains the chronological data of the 1991-1992 events”, LTC Vitalie Ciobanu stated.

During the event, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta stated the echo of war still lives in our heart. Marinuta decorated 12 retired servicemen with Commemorative Cross Medal.

“It is a known fact that a nation doesn’t have a present or future if it doesn’t know its past. It’s a moral duty of each us to remember those dead in the 1992 war. Today, at this event, we commemorate and appreciate the patriotism of citizens who defended our homeland and nation”, the Minister of Defense said.

Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Carpov stated, ‘This war still lives in our mind and the great efforts made by the group of researchers at the in line institutions archives are an incomparable fortune for our new generations’.

“In Memoriam” book was published by the Ministry of Defense, in partnering with the Bureau for Reintegration on the 20th anniversary since the war for independence of the Republic of Moldova. The book has 1300 copies and was shared to the libraries of schools and high schools, universities, mayoralties and Military Centers.

According to the official data, 287 people died in the Dniester War. Nearly 40 citizens were declared missing and other 3,500 were injured.
