Tiraspol Violates JCC Decisions

The members of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) have hardly approved the daily agenda for the meeting of April 12 because of the disputes caused by checkpoint No.9 on Vadul lui Voda bridge.

The problem is that, one hour before the meeting, a group of so-called peacekeepers under Tiraspol administration tried to establish barriers and indication signs removed by the local population during the protests that followed the tragic incident as of January 1, when a Russian peacekeeper had shot a Moldovan citizen. The JCC members on behalf of Republic of Moldova warned that by trying to reinstall the barriers, Tiraspol peacekeepers violated the JCC’s decision as of January 13. our delegation asked the other members to say their opinion about the need to install some new peacekeepers’ protection barriers, while the role of these checkpoints was to defend citizens and insure freedom of movement in the Security Area.

At the meeting, the JCC members examined two reports of the Joint Military Command and appreciated the military drills of the Peacekeeping Joint Forces with high grades.

The parties also concluded the work groups in charge of discussing the issues of checkpoints installed in the Security Area without the JCC’s agreement and the cooperation of law-enforcement structures would meet pm April 17 at the OSCE office in Bender.

At the end of the meeting, Ion Solonenco, JCC Deputy Chairperson on behalf of the Republic of Moldova, informed the members of the commission about the preparation activities for the Easter holidays as part of the meeting of the Republic of Moldova Prime Minister Vlad Filat with the leader of the Transnistrian region Evghenii Sevciuc.
