Women to Join Military Academy



CHISINAU, July 25, 2012 — Over 200 young people from the Republic of Moldova passed the admission examination at Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy of the Armed Forces from Chisinau. For the first time in the National Army, 33 of the candidates are women.

The Rector of the Military Academy, Col. Mihail Buclis, stated that the 33 young women apply for eight places at the Faculty of Signals. “We decided to let women candidate for a place in our academy as a result of the modernization process of the institution and the status of member of the Partnership for Peace Program Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes”, Buclis specified.

Col. Buclis appreciated the female candidates’ performance and commitment during the admission exams. “Although women will be accepted at the Military Academy for the first time in the National Army history, I was quite surprised by their good motivation and excellent physical conditions being able to compete with men on an equal footing”, the Head of the Academy said.

The admission exams at Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy of the Armed Forces are held July 23-26 and consist of an intelligence test and a physical training exam. The applicants will compete at the following sports categories: 100 meter distance running, pull ups (men), push ups (women) and 1000-3000 meter distance running.

For the academic year 2012-2012, the Military Academy has 100 places for candidates, including 50 — at infantry specialty, 25 — artillery and 25 — faculty of signals.

The length of studies is four years. Accommodation, food and military equipment are free for students.
