Moldova Wins Golden, Silver and Bronze Medals at Taekwon-do World Championship



Chisinau, August 14, 2012 — The team of the Republic of Moldova won the golden, silver and bronze medals at the Taekwon-do World Championship held August 6-13, in Ottawa, Canada. All the nine sportsmen are members of the Central Sports Club of the Army.

Thus, sportsman Petru Cotoman, won the golden medal at sparring, 82 kg, Nicolae Gavrilita 70 kg, was on the second position and won silver.

As for the individual special technique, Nicolae Gavrilita was on the first position, followed by Rinat Pulcinschi. Simion Furdui won the bronze medal at sparring junior individual.

At team sparring and Kyok-pa team sparring, the Moldovan sportsmen won the second prize. For both categories, our team competed with the sportsmen from Argentina.

The Moldovan team is trained by coaches Iurie Spataru, who was the head of the delegation at the Championship, and Corneliu Bulat, who was a member of the team, competed for the category of veterans.

The Taekwon-do World Championship is held once in two years. The next edition of the competition will be held in Sardinia, Italy in 2014. This year edition brought together 732 sportsmen from over 25 countries.

All the representatives of the team are winners of the European Championship held in Naples, Italy, in October 2011.
