Moldovan Sportsman Wins Silver Medal at Free Fight World Championship



Chisinau, September 11, 2012 — Warrant officer Victor Ciobanu, member of the Central Sports Club of the Army (CSCA) won the silver medal at the Free Fight World Championship for juniors held September 2-9, in Pataia, Thailand.

The 20-year-old sportsman competed at 56 kg category with representatives from Germany, Armenia, South Korea, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

Victor Ciobanu was the second in the competition. The winner of the first prize was the sportsman from Azerbaijan. The bronze medal went to the representatives of Japan and Bulgaria.

According to the Interim Chief of the Central Sports Club of the Army, Ionut Tanase, Ciobanu was trained by Master of Sports Mihai Cucu. In June 2012, the sportsman participated at the Free Fight European Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, where he won the bronze medal.

The Free Fight World Championship is held yearly. This year, the sports event brought together 256 sportsmen from over 56 countries.
