Military EOD Engineers Blow Up 25 Explosives


CHISINAU, September 24, 2012 — Last week, the National Army EOD engineers blew up 25 explosives discovered in a few districts of the Republic of Moldova.

According to LTC Mihail Semionov, Commander of the EOD Troops of the National Army, the most of the explosives were discovered by the forester near Plopi Stiubei village, Stefan Voda district. He announced the police about having found unidentified objects during the land processing works near the forest. The EOD engineers of Codru Battalion discovered 11 mortar bombs of 81 mm caliber and four 7,62 mm bullets. The explosives were of German origin and dated back to 1940-1944. They were destroyed on the spot.

LTC Semionov stated that, during this period of time, the military EOD engineers’ help was also required in Anenii Noi, Hincesti and Causeni districts, where artillery projectiles, F1 grenades and mortar bombs where discovered.

After the investigation procedures, the EOD engineers concluded the unexploded ammunition was 65 years old being a real threat for the local citizens.

This year, the National Army EOD Engineers carried out 185 mine disposal missions and liquidated 1916 explosive devices in different parts of the country.
