Peacekeepers’ Interoperability Guarantee Peace

Chisinau, October 4, 2012 — The control of peacekeeping forces and peacekeeping contingents’ means from the Security Area was carried out October 3-4.

The complex control of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces focused on testing and evaluating the effectiveness of the command procedures of the Joint Main Staff, the control of the cooperation level and joint field actions of the contingents.

The control process consisted of three stages. The first stage included the control of the staff training actions for the accurate fulfillment of their basic missions. This stage was held October 3 at the peacekeeping units’ checkpoints. The second and third stages consisted of a practical field exercise called “Response to illegal military forces’ attack and removal of consequences”. The practical exercise of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces was held Thursday, October 4, at checkpoint No.8 right/left from the bridge near Dubasari town. The event brought together about 150 peacekeepers and the members of the Joint Control Commission.

The peacekeepers’ mission was to recover the order in the area of responsibility and neutralize illegal military forces in charge of maintaining peace in the region.

At the end of the exercise, the best peacekeepers were appreciated by the Joint Control Commission and the Joint Military Command.

According to Col. Veaceslav Birca, senior military official on behalf of the Republic of Moldova constitutional structures, the peacekeepers did a wonderful job and proved accuracy in their actions and interoperability of troops in unpredictable situations.

Aurel Fondos, interim deputy chairperson of the Joint Control Commission on behalf of the Republic of Moldova, also appreciated the peacekeepers’ job. He specified the peacekeepers had shown excellent combat readiness results and, despite the fact they were from different military structures, the relations were based on friendship and accurate fulfillment of missions. Fondos also said the practical exercise helped the military command review the actions and establish the areas peacekeepers still have to work on.

The Joint Peacekeeping Forces consist of three groups: Russian Army Group, Republic of Moldova Force Group and Tiraspol Force Group, as well as military observers on behalf of Ukraine. There are a total of 15 checkpoints and nearly 1500 officers deployed to the 225 km length and 12-20 km breadth Security Zone.
