CETATEA – 2012 Is Finished at Bulboaca Training Center



CHISINAU, October 5, 2012 — Cetatea 2012 exercise certifies the professionalism of infantry and artillery units of the National Army, whose command, cooperation and control procedures have been tested this week in the field, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta stated at the end of the military exercise “Cetatea 2012” (The Citadel 2012) held at Bulboaca Military Training Ground.

The Minister of defense appreciated the planning, organization of the exercise, specifying that the performance of the participants is due to one-year hard training. “Our goal was to check the professional readiness of servicemen and the military technical equipment of the army in the field. By the missions established during the exercise, the military students of Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy had the opportunity to train their abilities of leading troops, acting along with experienced officers”, Vitalie Marinuta said.

According to the interim commander of the Land Force Command, Col. Igor Gadirca, the military staff deployed to the exercise was engaged in missions typical of classic defense operations. “They shot artillery weapons, combat vehicles and infantry weapons of the National Army, thus finishing the one-year military training”, Gadirca said. During the exercise, a few training points were organized for the EOD training, obstacle race and medical support point.

The exercise “Cetatea 2012” brought together over 500 servicemen of Stefan cel Mare Brigade, the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion, the EOD and the Signal Battalion, the Artillery Division and the students of Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy. The exercise involved 18 artillery units, including MT-12, 2S9 “NONA” and PM-120 systems, D-20, as well as 27 technical units of the National Army.

To maintain confidence between both banks of the Dniester River, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova invited the representatives of the so-called Transnistrian military structures as observers to the event, but they did not come. The exercise “Cetatea 2012” was observed by defense attaches to Chisinau, as well as representatives of the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova.
