20 Explosive Devices Blown Up in the Security Area

CHISINAU, October 29, 2012 — The National Army EOD engineers blew up 20 explosive devices found last week in the Security Area.

According to LTC Mihail Semionov, Chief of EOD Section of the National Army, the ammunition was discovered by a local citizen in his court from Dubasarii Vechi village, Criuleni district, while digging a well.

The explosive disposal operation was carried out by the EOD engineers of Codru Battalion from Negresti. The leader of the group, Cpt. Gheorghe Racu, said the ammunition dated back to Second World War and was a great threat to the people.

“The EOD team identified 20 mortar bombs of 45 mm caliber. Since transporting them was extremely dangerous, they were destroyed on a sand pit near the village”, Cpt. Racu said.

The explosive disposal operation was also watched by the military observers of the joint Peacekeeping Forces from the Security Area.

Semionov also said that there are six mine disposal groups working in the National Army. This year, the National Army EOD Engineers carried out 216 mine disposal missions and liquidated 2081 explosive devices in different parts of the country.
