National and international experts discussed security issues
Chişinău, November, 16th 2012 — The elaboration and implementation of strategic documents in the military field is one of the major tasks of the Ministry of Defense at the moment, considering that the national security sector as a whole is in an extensive process of reform and modernization. The declaration was made by the Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuţa, within the workshop entitled “National Security Strategy and National Military Strategy — necessary reforms in defense planning”, held in Chisinau by the Ministry of Defense with the support of the International Centre for Democratic Transition from Hungary.
According to the Minister of Defense, the activity was organized in order to address issues related to the national security of the Republic of Moldova and also to know international experience in implementing security strategies and finding solutions for the completion of military strategic documents under austerity.
“In the future, within this project, dialogue with civil society will be initiated, as well as with state institutions and business sector in order to promote reforms in defense planning, military and security policy and to address issues regarding the Transnistrian conflict” , mentioned Vitalie Marinuţa.
In his turn, Istvan Gyarmati, the Director of the International Centre for Democratic Transition, pointed out that this project represents a new chapter in the activity of the Centre in Eastern Europe, which provides assistance to Moldova in several areas. “In this regard, in the coming months, the International Centre for Democratic Transition in Moldova plans to organize seminars, conferences and roundtables to debate these topics,” said Istvan Gyarmati.
The event brought together experts from NATO, the European Parliament, former Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau and civil society who participated in the development and implementation of strategic documents on national and international level. Participants offered suggestions which will lead to completion of military strategic documents under austerity.
