International Inspection in National Army Units

Chisinau, March 22, 2013 — A group of Canada Conventional Arms Control Agency experts inspected March 20-21, 2013, the military units of the National Army.

During the visit, the experts checked the level Republic of Moldova has achieved its goals as part of the 2011 Vienna Document, which is one of the main tools in the political-military international cooperation progress.

Teams of OSCE military experts visit national military units every year as part of the implementation of measures to raise confidence and increase security in the member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

According to the Vienna Document, both, military units and organizations of the host state and units of other OSCE members working on the territory of the inspected country are put under inspection. Therefore, the members of the inspection team requested the inspection of military buildings of the Russian Federation from the Eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova.

Transnistrian authorities prohibited the access of international inspectors on the territory of the region. The Russian Peacekeeping Force Command in the security area held a briefing for the inspection team members.
