Military Students – European Jiu-Jitsu Champions



CHISINAU, April 3, 2013 — Sergiu Bejan, student of Alexandru cel Bun Armed Forces Military Academy, won gold medal at 66 kg category contest in the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held in Požarevac, Serbia.

LTC (ret.) Igor Gilca, professor at the Physical Training and Sports Department of the Military Academy, said that the Moldovan Jiu-Jitsu team had four students and an officer of Alexandru cel Bun Armed Forces Military Academy. “The performance of our military sportsmen shows the National Army’s commitment to professional sports. We are proud of the success achieved in Serbia and we hope to get more medals at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Turkey too”, Igor Gilca said.

The quoted source said that students Nicolae Galbura and Pavel Sulga won silver medals at 73 kg and 60 kg category contests.

Two other representatives of the academy, student Andrei Manic and LTC Igor Gilca, got the bronze medals after having recorded high performance at 60 kg and 90 kg category contests.

This year, the Jiu-Jitsu competition brought together 360 sportsmen from 13 countries. Republic of Moldova was represented by 18 Jiu-Jitsu fighters. The Moldovan team won seven gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

The World Jiu-Jitsu Championship will be held within April 22 — 29 in Antalia, Turkey.
