American Officer Awarded by Minister of Defense
CHISINAU, June 10, 2013 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta awarded LTC Sergio Porres, Head of the US Office of Defense Cooperation with the Medal “For Strengthening of Brotherhood in Arms” within a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense HQ. The event brought together US Ambassador to Chisinau, William Moser, defense attaché LTC Brian Stephan and representatives of US Office of Defense Cooperation.
The award marks the conclusion of the American officer’s tenure and is a sign of gratitude for contribution to development of cooperation relations between the two militaries.
Minister of Defense thanked LTC Porres for engagement in Moldovan-American projects throughout his mandate, that had an outstanding impact on the development and reform of defense area in our country. “The renovation of Bulboaca Military Training Ground, participation of Moldovan soldiers in Hohenfels exercise, certification by international experts of an infantry company and a group of EOD engineers for participation in international peacekeeping missions are some of the projects carried out here with your support. On my behalf and on behalf of Moldovan servicemembers, we would like to thank you and wish you success in your further missions”, Vitalie Marinuta said.
In his turn, US Ambassador appreciate LTC Porres’ participation in humanitarian projects carried out in Republic of Moldova, mainly the medical assistance program implemented in partnering with North Carolina National Guard.
LTC Sergio Porres was assigned Head of the US Office of Defense Cooperation in July 2010. He served in the American Air Forces and Navy. Porres graduated from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, USA. Then, he was a manager of joint training programs within Kenya-US Liaison Office of the US Embassy to Kenya, Africa.
