Minister of Defense Meets with NATO Deputy Secretary General, Gabor Iklody



CHISINAU, July 9, 2013 — Defense Minister, Vitalie Marinuta, met today with Ambassador Gabor Iklody, Deputy Secretary General of North-Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The talks focused on issues related to the Moldovan Ministry’s of Defense cooperation with NATO, within Partnership for Peace Program, based on the implementation of defense and social assistance projects.

The Minister of Defense appreciated NATO’s support in the implementation of the pesticide disposal project in Republic of Moldova, military education reform and professional development of the National Army staff. “The cooperation with NATO is an important factor for our country, in general, and National Army, in particular, in term of implementation of defense and security reform and modernization projects. The final phase of the pesticide destruction project, the development of a successful military educational program, in compliance with Western standards, and participation of our soldiers in different professional development trainings abroad are just some of the results of our cooperation with NATO”, Vitalie Marinuta.

The Deputy Secretary General of NATO appreciated Republic of Moldova’s responsiveness to the reform of defense and security sector in compliance with international standards, as well as the National Army’s commitment to deploy a contingent to KFOR mission in Kosovo. Therefore, the NATO official applied for the examination of the possibility to provide all the necessary logistics support to ease the Moldovan servicemembers’ activity in this operation.
