CHISINAU, July 18, 2013 — The conscription process within January-April 2013 and the 2014 budget of the Ministry of Defense were the basic issues to be discussed at the Military Council of the Ministry of Defense.

During the meeting, the Head of Personnel Division of the Main Staff, Col. Eduard Ohladciuc, said that in January-April 2013, 1280 young men were drafted into the army.

According to the presented information, 74,2% are from rural areas and 25,8% — from urban regions. The qualitative characteristics of enlistees also show that, this year, the number of young men with gymnasium diplomas increased. At the same time, the number of young men with college and bachelor diplomas decreased. Thus, according to the level of education, 2,1% of enlistees graduated from colleges, 47% — hold bachelors’ degree and 50,9% — graduated from gymnasiums.

Minister of Defense, Vitalie Marinuta, warned about the improvement of conscription process, with a focus on the qualitative activity of medical military commissions and military territorial centers of the country.

The participants at the meeting also examined the draft project of the 2014 budget of the Ministry of Defense.

According to the Head of Economical-Financial Division, Col. Vitalie Bucatari, the National Army needs a minimum budget of about 600 million MDL in 2014 to improve the defense institution’s activity and cover the most important expenses. This year, the defense budget was 285,1 million MDL, which is 0,29% of GDP.

Minister Marinuta asked the staff to save as many financial resources as possible and decrease the expenses of the defense institution.
