U.S. Office for Defense Cooperation in Moldova Has a New Chief



CHISINAU, August 13, 2013 — Defense Minister Vitalie Marinuta had a meeting with the U.S. defense attaché to Moldova, LTC Brain Stephan, who presented LTC Brendan C. Bartlett upon his accreditation as chief of the US Office for Defense Cooperation in Moldova (ODC).

Vitalie Marinuta congratulated the U.S. official on his appointment and expressed his confidence that this appointment would enhance bilateral Moldovan-US military relations. “I wish you success in your professional activity and I am confident that, together, we will manage to identify the necessary mechanisms for a more dynamic cooperation in security and defense in the future,” the Minister of Defense specified.

Vitalie Marinuta expressed his hope that the new chief of the U.S. Military Cooperation Office would support the identification and development of new projects in the defense and social fields, including logistics, medical and engineering areas, as well as military education, which will help to develop the relations between Moldova and the USA. "The cooperation between Moldova and the USA is a strong point in the development of military sector in our country. The military and social projects implemented with the American partners’ support have generated clear progress in the modernization of the National Army and the promotion of a positive image in the society. Therefore, we continue to advocate for a fruitful bilateral cooperation between the two armed forces’, said the Minister Marinuta.

LTC Bartlett stated that, although he is at the beginning of his mandate, he noticed the progress of the National Army in the security and defense reform. “It is a privilege to hold the position of ODC chief and I assure you that I will make every effort for the successful development of bilateral cooperation activities between our countries,” LTC Bartlett said.

Also, the U.S. officials met with the Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Vitalie Stoian, to discuss about the Moldovan-American cooperation prospects in the military field, including Moldova’s commitment to participate in international peacekeeping missions.

LTC Brendan C. Bartlett served in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, USA, and the U.S. Air War College — aviation. He has a master’s degree in national security and international relations.
