Poland Appoints New Defense Attaché to Republic of Moldova



Chisinau, August 30, 2013 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta had a meeting with Ambassador of Republic of Poland to Moldova, Artur Michalski, who presented Col. Jan Mysczynski, upon his accreditation as defense attaché of Poland in our country.

Vitalie Marinuta congratulated Col. Mysczynski on his appointment and expressed his hope that the new defense attaché would contribute to the enhancement of Moldovan-Polish cooperation relations and support defense projects. “Poland has a rich experience in the development and modernization of the security and defense fields and Republic of Moldova would be honored to learn from this experience in term of defense reform”, the Defense Minister said.

Vitalie Marinuta also appreciated the participation of Poland in international theatres of operations, which is a good example for Republic of Moldova that should intensively contribute to European security by deploying Moldovan servicemembers to international UN-led peacekeeping missions.

Ambassador Artur Michalski stated that Poland would keep providing support and expertise in the defense and security reform areas. “We hope to identify a few cooperation areas that would support the development of bilateral affairs, especially in the training field. I would also like to point out the Polish Defense Ministry’s readiness to help cover the Moldovan Ministry’s of Defense needs”, Ambassador Michalski said.

Col. Jan Mysczynski said that holding the position of defense attaché to Republic of Moldova is a privilege for him. The official assured of his intention to meet the bilateral cooperation goal of the two countries.

Vitalie Marinuta and Ambassador Artur Michalski agreed to continue the discussions of mutual interest through defense experts. The Ministry of Defense expressed his confidence that the military institutions of both countries will identify the necessary mechanisms for a more dynamic cooperation in the future.

The Moldovan-Polish defense cooperation agreement was signed on October 27, 1998, in Warsaw.
