Moldovan-American Cooperation in General Inspection and Combating Corruption

CHISINAU, September 9, 2013 — The activity of General Inspection Division and its role in combating corruption and protectionism were the main issues covered during the Moldovan-American talks held during September 9-12 at the Ministry of Defense.

According to Col. Francisco Arce, inspector general within North Carolina National Guard, the event focused on making an assessment of the current situation in the IG system of the Moldovan Defense Ministry and identifying solutions for its improvement. “Our goal was to make an assessment on the Moldovan IG system and develop some recommendations on making it more efficient, as well as identify some possibilities of assistance in this area”, Col. Arce said.

Col. Iurii Briceag, Head of General Inspection Divisions (GID) of the Ministry of Defense, said that the American colleagues’ experience is useful for the National Army experts, because it gives them the possibility to develop some joint projects designed to combat cases of corruption and protectionism in the national defense institution. “As a result of this workshop, we intended to get US support for reforming and improving the GID’s activity, in compliance with the modern of western general inspection system”, Col. Briceag specified.

The workshop “IG Operations Overview” brought together about 20 IG experts and was held as part of the 2013 International Military Education and Training Program (IMET).
