National Army Medical Service Assessed by US Experts

Chisinau, September 12, 2013 — A group of experts of the international health section of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe visited, during September 10-12, the medical institutions and services of the National Army units.

According to the Head of Medical Military Division of the National Army Main Staff, Col. Vadim Chicu, the visit focuses on the assessment of medical staff capabilities and technical supply.

“The American experts examined the activity and work conditions of the medical services, as well as the professional level of the National Army medical personnel, in order to determine the most serious problems faced in their daily activity”, Col. Chicu said.

LTC Roberta Lenski from the U.S. Air Forces in Europe stated that Moldovan military doctors of the National Army may count on the support of their US colleagues in terms of providing them with modern equipment, in order to insure a more effective military medical system. “The results of the assessment proved that the biggest problem here is the fact that the medical equipment is outdated, because the medical employees are much more skilled than the equipment allows them to perform. We will be working with the European Command to try to obtain funding for projects in future to remove the existent gaps in medical equipment supply area”, LTC Lenski stated.

During their three-day visit, the American experts familiarized with the activity of the Outpatient Center, Military Central Clinic from Chisinau and its office from Balti, as well as the medical platoon of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion.

The visit of the experts of the experts of the international health section of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe is part of the Moldovan-American defense cooperation process highlighted in the Defense Memorandum signed on December 4, 1995.
