Military Students – Best at Rugby

CHISINAU, September 14, 2013 — Military students won the Rugby Cup of Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”, dedicated to the first anniversary of “Trumf” Rugby Team of the military institution.

The team of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova won the second place, followed by the sportsmen from Cojusna, that won the third place of the competition.

The cup was handed over to the winner by the Director of National Army Main Staff, Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie. The official congratulated the military rugby players on their performance in the competition.

According to Col. Mihail Buclis, commander of the institution, the sports event brought together sportsmen from educational institutions of the country. The Military Academy team demonstrated high performance and mastership within the played matches. “There has been one year since the military rugby team was created and our sportsmen have already recorded some victories, participating in national and international competitions. Today, the Military Academy rugby team proved that hard training and high commitment bring victory at the sports events. I congratulate them on their achievements”, Col. Buclis said.

The Head of Republic of Moldova Rugby Federation, Vasile Revencu, specified that the Military Academy Cup proves that rugby has spread over the past few years. “I am sure that rugby has ground for development in Moldova, for competitors have played with force. This proves that they are already professionals no matter the age of their teams”, Revencu said.

The sports event was organized by the Military Academy, in partnering with the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Youth and Sports and Moldova Rugby Federation and brought together four rugby teams of the country: Triumf (AMFA), Ciorescu-Rugby U19, Cojusna, Sporting-ASEM U19 and LIMPS Chisinau.

Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” Rugby Cup is a new event, that will be held yearly.

AMFA Rugby team was created in September 2012.
