500-kg Explosive Device Destroyed by Military EOD Engineers


Chisinau, September 30, 2013 — National Army EOD engineers were called in on Saturday, September 28, in Sculeni, Ungheni, where an airbomb of 500 kg was discovered during some excavation works.

The group of engineers, commander by Cpt. Valentin State, concluded that the explosive device was made in the Soviet period and dated back to World War II. The EOD engineers destroyed the bomb in a sand pit, 5 km far from the place where it was found.

According to Maj. Nicolae Teleghin, specialist, EOD Division of the National Army, in September, the EOD engineers located, identified, neutralized, recovered and destroyed five bomb-launcher boms, artillery projectiles of different caliber and F-1 and RGD hand grenades.

This year, National Army EOD engineers were called in 128 times and destroyed 1281 explosive devices throughout the country.
