National Army EOD Engineers – 21 Years in Combat Missions



Chisinau, October 18, 2013 — The Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Col. Igor Gorgan, attended the 21st ceremony of Engineering Battalion “Codru”, held in Straseni.

The National Army Commander congratulated the unit staff on the anniversary and thanked EOD engineers for commitment, risk and responsibilities assumed every day during mine disposal missions throughout the Republic of Moldova. “I had the honor and privilege to participate, along with you, in the post-conflict rehabilitation mission in Iraq and I noticed your professionalism while carrying out your missions. Moreover, your performance has been high appreciated by our foreign experts too”, Col. Gorgan said.

In his turn, Commander of the Engineer Battalion, Maj. Andrian Efros, stated that the unit he is the leader of is the only one to carry out combat missions during peace time. “One of the basic missions of the Engineer Battalion is the location, identification, neutralization, recovery and disposal of explosive devices discovered throughout the country. Thus, according to statistics, this year, the National Army EOD engineers disposed about 2000 explosive devices throughout the country”, Maj. Efros stated.

Engineer Battalion “Codru” was created on October 16, 1992 and is the first National Army unit to be awarded the Order for Service to the Fatherland, class I.
