Military-Political Talks between the Moldovan and Czech Ministries of Defense

Chisinau, November 13, 2013 — Czech-Moldovan aspects of bilateral defense cooperation and the perspectives of development of the most important areas of cooperation in the future were the topics discussed today within a meeting of Defense Minister Vitalie Marinuta with the Ambassador of Czech Republic to Republic of Moldova, Jaromir Kvapil. The event is part of the military-political talks by the specialists of the two ministries.

The officials made a review of the current Czech-Moldovan defense cooperation relations, as well as the perspectives of their development in the future. The counterparts discussed the 2014 goals in the bilateral cooperation plan, with a focus on the military education, logistics system, development of strategic military documents and defense policies.

“The modernization of the National Army is based on the experience of other European-oriented countries. The Czech Army is a model for us in matters of defense policies, military strategies and security area, in general”, Minister Marinuta said.

The Czech officials appreciated the latest activities conducted by the Defense Minister that aim at adjusting the national system of defense to European standards, even in austere budget conditions. “We are here to understand better the difficulties encountered by the Moldovan army in terms of reform, so that we propose solutions and provide necessary assistance”, Czech delegation representatives said.

Moldovan-Czech defense cooperation is based on the Agreement signed by the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Defense of Czech Republic on May 16, 2011, in Prague.
