Chisinau, November 20, 2013 — An operational group of the National Army started preparing for the evacuation of pesticides from Sadaclia, Basarabeasca, abroad.

According to LTC Mariana Grama, the Head of Ecology and Environment Protection Department of the Logistics Command, within November 20-30, the National Army servicemembers will repack, stack on pallets and label 50 tons of obsolete pesticides.

Grama mentioned that, on November 25, the first amount of toxic pesticides will be exported to Poland, through Ukraine. The pesticides will be burned in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland.

On November 19, the National Army’s operational group finished the evacuation of 10 tons of pesticides from Taraclia. Thus, Taraclia is the first administrative territorial unit of the Republic of Moldova that had been cleaned from chemicals, that remained here from the Soviet Union.

During this project, 1270 tones of pesticides will be evacuated and destroyed in Poland from the territory of the Republic of Moldova, until May 2014.

About 2,2 millions euros were gathered through the Trust Fund for the implementation of the final stage of the project NATO/PfP. 325 million euros of the money was issued by our country, while the other financial sources were allocated by Romania — pilot state of the project — Belgium, Norway, Ireland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria, Luxembourg and Lithuania.
