National Army Servicemembers Prepare to Evacuate About 140 Tons of Pesticides


Chisinau, December 2, 2013 — An operational group of the National Army started preparing for the evacuation of 140 tons of pesticides from Anenii Noi and Ialoveni abroad.

According to LTC Mariana Grama, Head of Ecology and Environment Protection Department of the Logistics Command, the pesticides will be evacuated from the territory of the Republic of Moldova until December 21.The chemicals will be transported and burned in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland.

The 1270 tons of pesticides from 20 districts, stored in 15 warehouses are destroyed within the final stage of the NATO/Partnership for Peace Project on the disposal of pesticides and chemicals from the Republic of Moldova, that started on July 9.

About 2,2 million euros were gathered through the Trust Fund for the implementation of the final stage of the project NATO/PfP. 325 million euros of the money was issued by our country, while the other financial sources were allocated by Romania — pilot state of the project — Belgium, Norway, Ireland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Estonia,Finland and Lithuania.

So far, 221 tons of pesticides from Taraclia and Basarabeasca were evacuated from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The solid pesticides will be evacuated until May 2014.
