Defense Minister Meets with Ambassador of Turkey in Chisinau



Chisinau, April 18, 2014 — Minister of Defense, Valeriu Troenco, met with ambassador of Turkey to Chisinau, Mehmet Selim Kartal. The event brought together Chief of the Main Staff, National Army Commander, Col. Igor Gorgan, and Turkish defense attaché in Republic of Moldova based in Kiev, Col. Samil Turk Ozcan.

The officials discussed the importance both parts give to the development and enhancement of bilateral defense cooperation. The Defense Minister appreciated the professional training possibilities of the National Army staff in Turkey, especially in the Partnership for Peace Training Center from Ankara.

We appreciate the high-quality training of the Moldovan officers and non-commissioned officers in the best military schools of Turkey. When back to their country, they apply in the National Army units modern standards, performance and projects directed towards the development of the defense institution", Defense Minister Troenco specified.

Mehmet Selim Kartal stated that Republic of Moldova can count on Turkey’s friendship. T the official also reiterated his country’s availability to develop an efficient partnership in the defense area, through some useful projects both, for Turkish and Moldovan armies.

The diplomatic relationship between Republic of Moldova and Turkey was established on February 1993. Turkey is among the most important ten economic partners of Republic of Moldova.
