National Army Servicemembers Evacuate Last Pesticides from Soroca District



Chisinau, May 5, 2014 — The last amount of pesticides is being evacuated today from Soroca district. The 34 tons of obsolete pesticides, collected from 18 localities of the district and stored in Cosauti, will be burned in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland.

According to LTC Mariana Grama, Head of Ecology and Environment Protection Department of the Logistics Command, the pesticides were gathered in 2007 from Badiceni, Bulboci, Cainarii Vechi, Cosauti, Dubna, Iarova, Oclanda, Ocolina, Redi-Ceresnovat, Pirlita, Rublenita, Rudi, Stoicani, Solcani, Tatarauca Veche, Vasilcau, Volovita, Vadeni and Visoca villages.

The source specified that eight servicemembers of the Logistics Command and Stefan cel Mare Brigade prepared the pesticides from Soroca for export.

Mariana Grama pointed out that, on May 6, the specialized group of National Army servicemembers will leave for village Tirnova, Donduseni, where they will start preparing the pesticides from the region for evacuation.

The evacuation and disposal of pesticides are carried out within the NATO/PfP project on the disposal of dangerous pesticides and chemicals supported by NATO/ PfP Trust Fund and the contributing countries such as: Romania —the leadership country of the project, Turkey, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Norway, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Estonia, Luxemburg and Japan.
