National Army Marks 23rd Anniversary



Chisinau, September 3, 2014 — Deputy Defense Ministers Aurel Fondos and Ana Vasilachi, Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, along with the staff of the Ministry of Defense, Main Staff, National Army veterans and the defense attachés accredited to Republic of Moldova, laid flowers today at Stefan cel Mare monument and (Grieving Mother) Monument of “Eternitate” Memorial in Chisinau. The officials remembered the heroes fallen for country’s integration. They also laid flowers at the soldiers’ tombs, buried in the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca street.

The National Army Day was celebrated in all military units and institutions, within a ceremony, attended by the National Army veterans. The best officers, NCOs and sergeants were awarded medals and conscripts were given three and five day-leaves.

The National Army was created on September 3, 1991, through Republic of Moldova President’s Decree No. 194.
