Head of OSCE Mission to Moldova Visits Ministry of Defense



Chisinau, October 31, 2014 — Defense Minister Valeriu Troenco met today with the Head of the OSCE Mission to Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Michael Scanlan.

The parties discussed the current bilateral relations between the institutions, including the progress of the joint projects implemented in the National Army.

Valeriu Troenco appreciated the OSCE Mission’s support in training servicemembers in the Ammunition and Weapons Stockpile Management and disposal of National Army obsolete ammunition, pointing out their importance for the security of civilian population and servicemembers working in this area.

The Defense Minister also praised the contribution of the organization to career reorientation project designed for retired military personnel, launched in September 2010. Valeriu Troenco also appreciated OSCE’s efforts in conducting the public awareness campaign on the danger of unexploded remnants of war in Republic of Moldova.

Ambassador Scanlan stated the National Army has always been a reliable partner. The official pointed out that the Moldovan Army made great steps in carrying out the above projects and programs. The progress and success of these activities supported the modernization of the defense institution, as well as the decrease of the risk of explosion in National Army storehouses, which demonstrates high interest for the OSCE values.

At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed on the ongoing cooperation in areas of common interest.
