National Army Soldiers Take Military Oath



CHISINAU, February 20, 2015 — Over 500 soldiers, enlisted in the National Army units in January, 2015, took their military oath during ceremonies held in Chisinau and Cahul garrisons, within February 20-21.

In Chisinau, 280 soldiers took their military oath within an event attended by Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, the National Army Commanding Officer Corps, parents, and relatives.

The Minister of Defense congratulated the young soldiers for taking the military oath and asked them to carry out their missions with perseverance and maximum responsibility. “I encourage you to be disciplined and to respect thoroughly the Moldovan Law and the requirements of military regulations. You must wear proudly the National Army uniform, to honor it through outstanding military actions and dignified conduct”, said Viorel Cibotaru.

Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan stated that the enlistment in the National Army marks the beginning of an important stage in the lives of young men. During this period, they will learn many useful military skills. “I believe that, after the 12 mandatory months of military service, some of you will become professional service members. Together with the National Army officers and NCOs you will represent the Republic of Moldova abroad, at multinational exercises”, said the National Army Commander.

The event agenda included weapon handling and wrestling exercises presented by service members of the Honor Guard and “Fulger” Battalion, as well as a musical performance by the Presidential Orchestra.

On Saturday, February 21, 226 conscripts from Cahul garrison will take the military oath in the Independence Square from Cahul.

After taking the mlitary oath, the soldiers will get a four-day leave. Then, they will be sent to the National Army units to serve.

The mandatory military service in the National Army lasts 12 months.
