Tribute to Heroes in Cocieri

CHISINAU, March 3, 2015 — Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, together with soldiers from the Security Zone, participated in the commemoration events dedicated to the heroes who died defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, held in Cocieri, Dubasari.

The event was attended by representatives of the local public authorities, soldiers, and relatives of the heroes who died in Dniester War.

The participants laid flowers at the commemorative plaque of the 1st independent infantry battalion of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces and at the monument of the heroes lost in Cocieri during the 1992 war.

At the commemorative meeting, the National Army Commander stated that it is every Moldovan citizen’s duty to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country’s independence and the veterans who taught us patriotism lessons. “Dear veterans, for the young generation of soldiers you are an example and your actions deserve our appreciation and esteem” said Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan.

The monument from Cocieri was inaugurated in summer, 2011, and represents three inlaid elements that form a cross, each symbolizing the sovereignty, statehood, and independence of the Republic of Moldova. On the granite, there are chiseled the names of 64 persons dead in the war of 1992.
